Catherine Nelson leads the company’s legal strategy, including internal and outside counsel support of all regulatory, litigation, contract, transactional and governance matters affecting HCSC and its operating units. She also oversees federal government relations and health policy. 

Catherine previously served as HCSC Plan and Business Counsel and provided counsel to the Office of the Chairman, CEO and President. She has also served as the General Counsel of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois. Before joining HCSC, she focused on corporate transactions in private practice at Foley & Lardner/Hopkins & Sutter, including supporting HCSC as outside M&A counsel. Catherine has a Juris Doctor from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
