CHICAGO — Health Care Service Corporation is investing nearly $10 million in 2024 Major Grant funding to support 276 non-profit organizations working to improve the health of their communities in Illinois, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
“By building upon our collective assets, experiences and knowledge with community partners, together we’re able to extend our impact to help support even more powerful community transformations,” said Clarita Santos, HCSC executive director of corporate and civic partnerships. “Health is influenced by so much more than what happens in hospitals and doctor’s offices and we’re working to create an environment that helps everyone live healthier — physically, mentally and economically.”
These grants align with HCSC’s community support focus areas which directly target the social determinants of health:
- Economic Opportunity and Stability: Addressing issues such as poverty, removing barriers to employment, providing good jobs and upskilling.
- Nutrition: Supporting efforts to decrease hunger and increase access to nutritious food.
- Neighborhood and Local Assets: Focusing on affordable healthy housing, access to transportation and access to physical activity.
- Locally Defined Health Solutions: Addressing hyperlocal health and human service needs.
- Optimal Health Outcomes: Helping close gaps in care, specifically around six priority areas: Immunizations; diabetes care; cardiovascular care; behavioral health; early detection cancer screening and maternal and infant health.
In 2023, HCSC’s Major Grants program served more than 1.8 million people and invested over $9 million to 257 nonprofit organizations.
